Joan frequently makes mention of music and radio shows in her journal.

On Tuesday, January 4, 1938, Joan writes, ” We’re reading As You Like It (you may not but I do) in English and Shakespeare makes the awfullest puns—worse than Jack Benny—really!”

Who was Jack Benny?  Only an immensely famous comedian on radio, in movies, and later on television.

Listen to a Jack Benny radio show.  What is the humor like?  Is it different than comedians today?  What does it have in common with today’s humor?  Find some shows here.
